I have worked in primary schools in Bristol, Hackney, Christchurch and Poole and have taught all ages from 4-11. I started going down the senior management route in schools before having my own children and then my outlook COMPLETELY changed.
After working with children for over 22 years, I have become increasingly aware for the need of support with mental health and wellbeing for our children. Since having my own children and also experiencing post-natal anxiety, I have worked hard to develop strategies to combat this for myself and also ways to help my own children. I have seen what can happen when someone doesn't pay attention to their own mental and emotional needs and unhealthy coping mechanisms that can be used.
My aim is to help children believe in themselves, to develop the skills to really understand their own mental and emotional health and to ultimately, live lives full of joy. Although I adore working in primary schools and have so much respect for all the staff, I was keen to offer a service outside of school to support both parents and children in an area that seems more important than ever
My long-term goal is to train schools to develop this awareness within all schools and to enable the 'wellness' curriculum to become a permanent feature in the school timetable.
The term 'wellness' means so much more than eating your vegetables and doing exercise.
