Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan has been named as a Minister in the Department for Education following Labour's general election victory.
In his new ministerial role, Mr Morgan will be responsible for delivering better childcare and early education to give every child the best start in life.
Mr Morgan, who was re-elected as the MP for Portsmouth South last week, joins a five-strong ministerial team at the DfE, serving under new Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In their election-winning manifesto, the Government set out plans to break down barriers to opportunity for children in Portsmouth and across the country through measures including recruiting 6,500 new expert teachers in key subjects, opening 3,000 new primary school-based nurseries and introducing free breakfast clubs in every primary school.
