A British / Swiss honours language graduate, I have worked and lived in both the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland for some years, having used my languages in my previous career as an International Marketing Manager with major companies. My linguistic background and experience enable me to understand the different cultures and the idiomatic use of the language. In 2004 I decided to change my career path and trained as a language teacher and completed a teaching degree at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006. I speak French, German and Italian fluently and teach courses to suit the student's needs whether for pleasure, business or examination. I teach students of all ages individually, in groups and for companies. Learning a language is an excellent mental exercise preparing students for foreign travel and enhanced business connections abroad. It is a great privilege to be in the position to teach and pass on knowledge to students and also a great responsibility. Therefore lessons have to be well planned and organised.
My approach to language teaching is firmly structured with well developed lesson plans which take into account the student's needs/ age/ desired objectives. The learning process is interactive which promotes effective communication in the target language. Students enjoy the lessons whilst achieving their set goals. Various interactive teaching methods are used - oral work (speaking and listening)/ reading/ written exercises. One-hour lessons cover these areas. Variety is essential to keep concentration and reinforce different aspects of the learning process. My students gain confidence to communicate in the target language. Individual support along with personalised resources is given at each lesson.
