"This is a whole new world for me. My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and as much as I read around the subject, this workshop has helped me enormously to understand why my son struggles and how I can help him"
"We are just beginning the process of having our child assessed but I needed help NOW! I am so glad I came to the session."
Whether you have a child with a diagnosis of ASD or ADHD, or suspect that your child may have an additional need, you may be facing behaviours that are hard to manage and a child who seems to struggle daily with their emotions and navigating their way through daily life.
You are not alone!
Every day we support parents who want to understand how to support their child when they are or may be struggling with an additional need. They often see behaviour that is hard to manage and out of proportion reactions to seemingly everyday situations. Parents are often challenged by their child's sleeping, eating and social interactions.
The session is for parents and carers of all children at The Beacon and will give you a better understanding of what is going on for your child, why they behave the way that they do and how you can support them with their challenges. Through the use of group discussion, individual/group activities and written materials you will learn about:
What are ASD & ADHD
Why challenging behaviour happens
how to calm during an emotional outburst
Understanding our responses
How to support and prepare our children for some of the challenges they may face in day to day life
A Supporting Links workshop is not a lecture. It is an interactive learning experience run by highly experienced facilitators, counsellors and parenting practitioners.
Please don't worry, you will NOT be required to take part in any role play!
