Bonfire toffee
Bonfire night is not complete without this sticky traditional sugary candy. Taking you back to your childhood while creating strong memories for your little ones. It requires few ingredients to make and is lots of fun to smash with your kids.
Ingredients:
Method:
Starting with some hot water in a pot, pour in your sugar and let it dissolve slowly. Do not stir your mixture, instead, gently swirl the pot. Mix the remaining ingredients in a well-greased jug and pour this mixture into the dissolved sugar. Add in your thermometer and increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil. Once you reach 140C/285F, pour this mixture into a very well-greased tin, lined with non-stick parchment paper. Let it cool/harden before smashing it with a toffee hammer.
Watch the firework display
The simplest activity on this list, enjoying the firework display. This will be the highlight of the night and the most memorable of them all. Just make sure to be at a safe distance and don't forget to make your bonfire night treats along with you.
Edible sparklers
This easy peasy treat is one of our favorites for bonfire nights. It's absolutely safe for toddlers and delicious for everyone. Make sure to add Cadbury milk chocolate finger biscuits and sprinkles to your groceries list. The final ingredient is warm water, and that's all you need.
Take the chocolate fingers and dip half of it in warm water until the chocolate melts, now roll the top half of the fingers into the sprinkles to create chocolate finger sparklers. We would recommend using primarily white and yellow sprinkles to imitate the sparks from sparklers.
In the bonfire circle game
Let's get moving with this fun adaptation of hokey pokey, also known as 'put your right hand in'. For this game, we will need everyone to get into a circle with one person being the caller. We have 4 lines with different corresponding actions.
When the caller shouts these lines everyone should:
'In the bonfire' - Put their hands into the circle, towards an imaginary bonfire.
'Out the bonfire' - Put their hands above their heads, away from the imaginary bonfire.
'On the logs' - Put their hands on your knees.
'Fireworks' - Put their hands in the air and shake, shake, shake.
The players who get the action wrong lose that round. The caller can speed up the actions to make the game more challenging.
Fireworks hand painting
Time to get into a colorful creative mess with your toddlers. Start by spreading newspapers on the workspace to make cleaning up easy. Have bowls of paints ready for your child to dip their hand into. Also, have various colors of glitter to add some magic to the final piece. The paintings don't need to stop at fireworks, you can paint bonfires, sparklers, and even guy Fawkes. The sky's the limit!
Get cracking with these activities to create a memorable toddler-friendly bonfire night. We hope you enjoy the 5th of November to the fullest with your loved ones, surrounded by sugary treats and color.
